On Wednesday July 20, the remaining Summer 2 group went to the museum of popular culture. We began by making a delicious Costa Rican pastry with a coconut filling. We started to make the pastry by rolling two pieces of dough flat and then crimping the edges to hold the filling. Next we put the warm coconut filling in the cavity of the dough. While the pastry’s cooked we continued our tour of the museum. Our enthusiastic and free-spirited tour guide wanted to get to know us better and asked us questions of where we were from. We then proceeded with the tour. First we toured the gardens of the museum where we got an in-depth look at the coffee plant. After the gardens we continued to an antique Costa Rican home where we took it upon ourselves to tour the inside. We learned about the living conditions of typical Costa Rican families. We finished the tour by eating our freshly baked pastries and a cup of Costa Rican coffee or a cup of freshly squeezed juice. We’re thankful of the experience because it allowed us to peer into the day-to-day life of the Costa Rican lifestyle, a life of simplicity with practicality.
