We have been volunteering at San Miguel Escuela for the past week, and we have shared some very special moments with each other and the children. During our work we have not just volunteered on a physical level but also created everlasting bonds with the children from eating lunch, playing soccer and just talking with them. Throughout the past week we have started a garden, prepped and began painting the outside of the school, and beautified the school grounds, in addition to bonding with the children. Last Thursday the school had a celebration commemorating Annexation of Nicoya, during which the entire community got involved from dancing to having traditional Costa Rica food items served. A lot of the children performed the celebration in different types of dances. After just one week the town has already made us feel apart of the tight-knit community. We are happy to have another week to get to know the children better and help to make a positive impact on the school and the community.
